Kiowa Fastrans is a public transportation system designed to assist tribal, non-tribal and the general public in assisting the community in transportation needs.
The transit system was first implemented into service from 1984 to 2003. It was dubbed “FASTRANS”, because the first three letters stood for First Americans Sponsored, with the last five letters from Transportation. The Kiowa Tribe was the first tribe in Oklahoma to introduce a Tribal/Public Transportation system in the southwest region of Oklahoma.
The Kiowa Transit Program was recently approved for a grant in the amount of $333,000.00. With this grant we plan on upgrading our current vans to be equipped with GPS and computer software to streamline our services and reporting. We keep continued contact with the FTA (Federal Transit Administration). Our yearly reporting has been accompliched in a timely manner and all necessary forms have been filed and reported to the FTA. We also maintain contact with our Regional Office which oversees grants and funding.
The Kiowa Transit Program is currently awaiting the new approved grant so that we may advance our services to the Kiowa people as well as the Public.
